Echinacea should not be given to children under 12 years old.

Extract of basil leaves in fresh water should be given every 2 to 3 hours.

As an alternative cough syrups and expectorants, mobilize mucus in bronchitis and asthma. Chewing tulsi leaves relieves cold and flu.

Water boiled with basil leaves can be taken as drink in case of sore throat or used as a gargle.

A decoction (concentrate, boil down) of the leaves, with honey and ginger is an effective remedy for respiratory disorder such as bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold.

A decoction of the leaves, cloves and common salt also gives immediate relief in case of influenza.

They should be boiled in half a liter of water till only half the water is left.

Garlic benefits

This is the time to drink lots of fluids such as water, tea, juices and beverages. Especially if symptoms include watery running nose, as lots of fluids are lost and our body needs replenishment.


Water loosen mucus and prevents dehydration. Cold fluids can lower fever. Chinese practices discourages consuming cold or ice water during flu, whereas western views may suggest fruit or vegetable frozen pops or slushy drinks to hydrate and reduce fever.

Chamomile has calming properties, will help promote sleep. Peppermint helps with nose congestion. Teas like green tea, oolong tea, or black tea or pur-er are high in anti-oxidant which boost the immune system.

A good old tea remedy would be hot tea, with honey, lemon and grated or pounded ginger with its juices, helps soothes the throat when coughing or having sore throat.

Had a very bad and lengthy case of flu, cough, sore throat.
